Put it on the floor, rest your foot on top and roll slowly from heel to toes, pressing down as much as feels comfortable. Spend longer on any spot that feels tight. The roller works on other areas too, like the arms, back and shoulders: hold it against the muscle and roll, or lean into it against a wall.
